Matthew has experience across a wide range of issues arising from the breakdown of marriages and relationships, including divorce, financial matters, nuptial agreements and disputes concerning children.
He has a particular interest in financial remedy cases and specialises in matters involving complex income structures, substantial business interests and diverse asset portfolios, often with an international dimension. Matthew works closely with accountants, pension experts, financial advisers, litigation loan providers, mediators, private FDR judges and leading family law counsel to help clients achieve the best possible outcomes.
Matthew also advises families on arrangements for children, including contact disputes, relocation and leave to remove applications, interim arrangements and cases involving allegations of parental alienation. He has particular experience in matters involving serious safeguarding concerns, including allegations of parental alienation and substance misuse.
Known for his calm and practical approach, Matthew actively promotes alternatives to court proceedings wherever possible and seeks constructive, cost-effective solutions that minimise conflict. Where litigation is necessary, he provides clear advice and robust representation, ensuring clients are fully informed throughout the process.
Matthew joined Carlsons in 2023, having trained and practised in highly regarded family law teams in the City of London. He is an active member of Resolution and YRes, organisations committed to promoting a constructive approach to resolving family disputes. Outside the office, Matthew enjoys spending time with his young family and travelling. He is also a keen cyclist and runner, regularly running 10km from home to the office. In 2022, he represented Great Britain at the Age Group World Duathlon Championships in Romania.
